Extremely rare 1st Pattern MG42 dated 1942

This is a very rare first pattern MG42 in the early configuration with extremely rare 1st model ‘slab sided’ flat cocking handle and Bakelite buttstock. Matching numbers to receiver and top cover. The top cover is also the rare 1st pattern that differs only very slightly from the standard production one by means of a slightly different shape to the top stamping shape. The bipod was originally a first model MG34 style that used a locking pin but the bipod has been Waffenmeister upgraded to the later type although you can see that it was originally the earlier model so the bipod is from originally from this MG42 or an early model of the same early version. The bipod also has a shrapnel or bullet strike on one of the legs from action which does not affect use. It is maker coded ‘cra’ for Maget and eagle coded WaA11 on various parts. The black Bakelite buttstock is also coded WaA11. Serial number is in the 2000 range without a letter suffix so one of the first batch of MG42s produced. Rear flip up anti-aircraft sight still attached. A MG42 in this configuration is extremely rare as the early cocking handle was deemed to be too difficult to use so the cocking handles were redesigned to the standard pattern and pretty much all of the early handles were retrofitted and scrapped making this a very rare survivor. Complete with certificate.
